suit vs. tuxedo

My fiance wants to buy his own very nice suit from Mens Warehouse instead of renting a tuxedo. I'm not completely sure why, but my concern is that is isn't going to be as formal as a tuxedo. I know the really nice ones are very formal but I'm not sure if it is cost efficient considering he is in business but doesn't wear suits often. Any suggestions?

The best little hint I heard about "dressing up" a tux is to buy tuxedo buttons (from Joann Fabrics) and swap out the standard suit buttons for the wedding and then when he wants to wear it for a less formal occasion, put the standard suit buttons back on. Also consider getting a matching tie and handkerchief set to give it a more formal feel.

It's a good investment for any man to buy a suit. You caught a smart guy - good work and congrats!

I think a suit is a great idea! They can look formal or understated depending on the suit, tie, etc. Plus my fiance is tall and when he was in a friend's wedding and had to rent a tux ,it was fitted improperly. Even though he was measured the jacket was too snug and the pants were a bit short. So even if the suit is a little pricier your fiance will be able to wear it again and definitely get his money's worth unlike an expensive wedding dress. If cost is a factor for the wedding party just tell the guys to wear their best black suit and black tie with a white shirt.

I think suits can be worn, and look nice . . . my concern would be . . . how many other men are in the wedding party? Are they all going to buy suits? And, is he willing to buy a ties that coordinates with the ladies' dresses?
Unless your getting married at the Bascilica or in a very formal eveing wedding, a suit is fine.

My fiance wants to do the same thing. I wasn't crazy about the idea at first, but then he showed me some pictures online and it really grew on me. Of course it depends on what your wedding and if you think it will fit with your dress, the venue, etc. As for owning a suit, it never hurts and it might be a nice momento!
