How long do I need to plan?

I just got enaged in March and we are hoping for a May/June 2010 wedding. My fiance is in the Army and deployed to Iraq right now. I am up to my ears in work trying to finish my Master's by this August. I haven't actually visited any ceremony/reception venues yet. I am hoping he'll get to see the place before we book it but he won't be home until June. I am concerned that we won't get a place for the time period we are looking for. Do you think it is too late to book a wedding for early summer 2010?

My daughter is getting married on May 29, 2010. We found that many places were already booked for May and June 2010. If you are really hoping to be married at that time, I suggest taking an afternoon away from your studies to look online. A number of Buffalo venues provide wedding package options and prices, as well as seating capacity. That should give you enough information to eliminate a number of venues and focus on a few that meet your basic criteria. We found that some venues will allow you to reserve a date provisionally without requiring a deposit. (If another couple is interested in the same date you will be called to confirm or release the date.) That way you can view the venues when your fiance returns from Iraq and make your final decision.

Let me know if you need any suggestions to help cut down your search, I've visited quite a few places around the area the past month or so.

It's not too late, but some places I've been to are already completely booked for june/july/august. May would be a little easier. I got engaged in December and thought, oh I'll start planning this june...well after a couple friends told me to start looking sooner, I'm finding that I need to book now.

I'm also in school and struggling with it because I'm trying to pick a venue....UGH!
