Reception in Summer 2010
I'm looking for a classy place with nice outdoor views (water, woods, gardens) with the possibility of being completely outdoors. I've ruled out Klocs and Harry's due to cost, I am looking to stay under $50/pp including bar tax and gratuity. Me and my fiance LOVED Shanghai Red's, but that will actually push us over the $50 mark. We also looked at Joseph's, and although I loved the staff and the prices, the facility did not really do it for me. I am still considering the following places, and have appts at them this week....can anyone give me their opinions on them?
Millenium (I know its not outdoors but their prices are good)
Kotecki's
Glen Oak
Lancaster Country Club
Banchetti's
Avanti Mansion - what are their prices too??? Can't find any $$ info.
Dock at the Bay
Joseph's
Shanghai Red's (still in the running :) )
Also, should I sacrifice on the wedding venue in order to be able to spend more $$$ on a better DJ, photographer, etc??? What's the most important thing to put the money into???

Avanti Mansion- although beautiful - nickels and dimes you for everything ~ the dance floor is $500 extra, the chairs are extra, if you have a cake from a bakery it's extra per person etc.. it's ridiculous. ALSO if they rush you to commit to a date ~ don't sign ~ read everything carefully at home first ! Your wedding would have to end promptly at 11:00 b/c of noise ordinance and they are very strict about it - even though they will tell you that it could go to midnight...it won't. I know a bride who made her own Chair covers ~ and Avanti actually charged her for putting them on the chairs.. $2.00 per chair ~ then KEPT the chair cover and said they were property of Avanti ! Trust me - as beautiful as it is.. unless you have an unlimited budget - stay clear from there. There are plenty of other beautiful venues in the area with indoor/ outdoor options available.

Avanti Mansion was wonderful

Our wedding was at the Avanti Mansion a few weeks ago and everything about the wedding was wonderful and beautiful and exactly as we wanted it to be. We have so many people asking us for more information about Avanti. There is not another venue in the city of Buffalo, or the surrounding suburbs, which provides the level of excellence that they do. They made our day perfect!

Stay away from Koteckis and Avanti Manson - Shanghai Red is awesome!
Millenium Hotel - mer313131

We ended up booking the Millenium Hotel. We have alot of out of towners, so we wanted to make sure they would be comfortable. We really like the courtyard area where we will have our cocktail hour (no xtra charge) and the ballroom is nice. The prices are great too, so we were able to spend more money on the photographer we wanted.

shanghai vs. harry's vs. buffalo yacht club - mer313131

I looked extensively at both shanghai and harry's, haven't tried their food but shanghai is cheaper. harry's charges extra for everything....cake cutting, dance floor fee, cocktail hour on the patio fee, etc. The neighborhood that harry's is in is run-down, whereas shanghai is right in the development area and is close to several hotels. I'd say go to both places for lunch or dinner and try some stuff! Haven't been to Launch Club but it looks really nice in pictures I've seen.

we'd like a reception May 2010 downtown Buffalo for 180-200 people. Is there a difference in food bw shanghai reds and Harry's Harbor Place. Also, what about the Buffalo Yacht Club? If you had your reception at any of these places were you satisfied.
thanks.

Thanks everyone so far....I'm going to look at Avanti Mansion on Thursday but I after my visits yesterday I think I'm going to shift focus to hotels or places that are very close to hotels with a shuttle. I looked at Millenium and they are really nice actually....anyone know of any other hotels that do weddings in the area for about 200 people???
I've already looked at the Ramada and didn't like it :(

There is a site called old orchard in east aroura it is totally outside, well under a tent for reception but it is beautiful and very cheaply priced. There is also banchettis on North French in Amherst. My fiance and I went there last night and looked at the facility. The inside is typical banquet but nice, but the outside is beautiful with a pavillion and a gazebo. The prices are great too! You can get a combination plate- Filet and Chicken with hor dourves, sides and a 5 hour open bar for only $36.00 a person!

I am having my wedding all outdoors at the Avanti Mansion- absolutely beautiful and a different from everywhere else. If you book on a Friday/Sunday they include some things- center pieces, etc. I am not sure of everything but I would call there 822-6200. If you do a Saturday, there is a $10,000 minimum

I am getting married at Shanghai Reds im 2010 May 30 and We love it, there are ways to do it cheaper for example have a tapas wedding, or have stations, if you check out their menu you dnt have to stick with the wedding menu.
